June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on the millions of individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy Body Dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurodegenerative conditions.
At Launch My Health, brain health is not simply a wellness topic. It is deeply connected to our mission and the personal experiences that inspired our work.
As we continue to learn more about the factors that influence cognitive health, one thing has become increasingly clear: nutrition plays a critical role in supporting how our brains function and age. While no single food or lifestyle habit can prevent dementia, growing research continues to highlight the powerful relationship between nutrition, metabolic health, inflammation, and long-term brain health.
That understanding is one of the reasons Launch My Health created our Nutrition for Brain Health program.
The Personal Story Behind Our Passion for Brain Health
The inspiration for this work began long before Launch My Health was founded.
Founder Brenda Navin grew up in a family that embraced healthy living. Her parents were active, energetic, and committed to taking care of their health. Whether they were skiing, hiking, biking, swimming, or enjoying time outdoors, wellness was simply part of everyday life.
Years later, Brenda began noticing subtle changes in her mother. Conversations became more difficult. Finding words became a struggle. The vibrant, engaged person she had always known seemed to be slowly slipping away.
Like many families, there was a hope that these changes were temporary. Instead, they marked the beginning of a long and difficult journey that eventually led to a diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia.
Navigating the healthcare system often felt overwhelming, and the family quickly discovered how little support and guidance existed for those facing a dementia diagnosis. Brenda watched her father become her mother’s primary caregiver, caring for her with extraordinary love, compassion, and dedication throughout her illness.
When Brenda’s mother passed away in 2020 at the age of 76, the loss left a lasting impact on her family.
It also strengthened Brenda’s commitment to understanding brain health and helping others learn what may support healthy cognitive aging long before symptoms appear.
Why Nutrition Deserves a Place in the Brain Health Conversation
For decades, conversations about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia have focused primarily on treatment after diagnosis. Today, researchers are increasingly exploring the role that lifestyle factors may play in supporting brain health throughout life.
Nutrition is one of the most important pieces of that conversation.
The brain is one of the most metabolically active organs in the body. It relies on a constant supply of nutrients to support memory, learning, focus, mood, and overall cognitive function. Emerging research continues to examine how dietary patterns, blood sugar regulation, cardiovascular health, inflammation, and nutrient intake may influence brain health over time.
While nutrition is not a cure for Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, evidence suggests that what we eat may affect many of the underlying processes associated with healthy aging and cognitive function.
The same eating patterns that support heart health, metabolic health, and reduced inflammation also appear to support brain health.
This growing body of research presents an important opportunity. Instead of waiting until problems arise, individuals can begin learning about the connection between food and brain function earlier in life and make informed decisions that support long-term wellness.
Why Launch My Health Created the Nutrition for Brain Health Program
Brenda’s personal experience with dementia helped shape a fundamental belief at Launch My Health: people deserve practical, evidence-based education about the factors that influence their health.
Too often, individuals are left searching for answers after a diagnosis. Launch My Health wanted to create a resource that empowers people with knowledge before a crisis occurs.
The Nutrition for Brain Health course was developed to help individuals better understand the relationship between nutrition, lifestyle, and cognitive wellness. The program translates complex scientific concepts into practical, actionable education that participants can understand and apply.
The goal is not to promise prevention or create fear.
The goal is to increase awareness, inspire informed choices, and help people understand that brain health is connected to many of the daily habits that influence overall well-being.
Participants learn about the connection between nutrition and cognitive function, the role of metabolic health in healthy aging, and the dietary patterns that have been associated with positive brain health outcomes.
Most importantly, the course encourages a proactive approach to wellness by helping individuals understand that supporting brain health is a lifelong journey.
Honoring Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month
This June, Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month serves as an important reminder that dementia affects far more than the individual diagnosed. It impacts spouses, children, caregivers, friends, and entire communities.
At Launch My Health, we honor those living with Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy Body Dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurodegenerative conditions. We also honor the caregivers who provide extraordinary support every day.
Through education, awareness, and evidence-based nutrition guidance, we hope to help more people understand the important role lifestyle may play in supporting healthy aging and cognitive wellness.
Because brain health is not just about adding years to life.
It is about helping people maintain the quality of life, independence, and connections that matter most.
