Love It or Hate It! Pumpkin Spice Latte Season is Here (With a Spicy Twist)

It’s that time of year again… pumpkin spice everything! The Pumpkin Spice Latte (aka PSL) is one of those drinks people either crave the moment September hits or roll their eyes at. Personally, I’m firmly in the love it camp. I adore all the cozy fall flavors, pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves—sign me up! I love them all.

But this year, I decided to put my own spin on the classic. Instead of the overly sweet version you often find in coffee shops, I wanted something warmer, spicier, and just a little unexpected. Enter: my Spicy Pumpkin Spiced Latte. Think PSL with a subtle kick that wakes up your taste buds. Perfect for a crisp fall morning or a cozy afternoon pick-me-up.

🌶️ Homemade Spicy Pumpkin Spiced Latte Recipe

Ingredients (1 serving):

  • 1 cup milk of choice (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 2 tbsp pumpkin purée (not pie filling)
  • 1–2 tsp maple syrup or honey (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (start small!)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup strong brewed coffee or 1 shot espresso
  • Whipped cream (optional, but highly recommended)

Instructions:

Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice—or, for the bold, a tiny pinch more cayenne.

In a small saucepan, heat milk, pumpkin purée, sweetener, and spices over medium heat until hot (but not boiling). Whisk to blend smooth.

Stir in vanilla extract.

Brew your coffee or espresso and pour into your favorite mug.

Pour the pumpkin-spice milk mixture over the coffee and stir.

Sip and enjoy! Brenda
